Most of what we pour in Sandy Springs replaces concrete that has already had a long life. Slabs from the 1960s boom settle, crack at the control joints, and lift where roots run underneath. We look at the subgrade before we quote a fix, because resurfacing over a slab that is still moving buys you two years at most. Sound slabs get grinding, patching and a bonded overlay. A concrete driveway on rolling, wooded ground needs drainage sorted first, so we grade and compact the base before any forms go up. We pour four inches for passenger cars and six where a truck or an RV parks, with rebar or wire mesh through the slab and control joints cut early. Old driveways usually fail at the apron and along the edges where the base washed out.
Patios are where the finish work shows. We pour stamped and colored concrete, exposed aggregate, and plain broom finish, and we talk through samples in daylight before ordering, since color reads differently once it cures. The slab still has to be built right: compacted base, proper thickness, joints placed where cracks want to go anyway. A concrete patio poured on soft fill will telegraph that within a season.
